The main rule that everyone is talking about right now is the need to show proof that you tested negative to COVID-19 when you re-enter the United States. Nick Fong wants to know what this means and how Los Cabos is preparing for these new CDC travel regulations.
Nick Fong, the founder of Ronival Real Estate joins Rodrigo Esponda to ask some crucial questions regarding the latest CDC travel regulations. Rodrigo is the managing director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, so he is the right person to answer these critical questions.

Getting your COVID-19 viral test in Los Cabos
Rodrigo reveals to Nick that the Los Cabos International Airport and most of the resorts will provide COVID-19 viral testing, right on site. Also, he revealed that many of the Real Estate Agents and Property Managers in Cabo will be providing that service as well.
During the video, Nick Fong states that many of his clients happen to be doctors. As such, he asks Rodrigo to see if those doctors can perform their own COVID-19 viral test. Rodrigo responds with a yes. He says that they can. But of course, they have to be qualified to perform the test and document it properly.
Approximately, the cost of COVID-19 viral testing is about $35 USD, which is about 700 Mexican Pesos. Also, as this testing kicks into high gear after January 26, 2021, the cost is predicted to go down as the testing ramps up. Interestingly, Rodrigo tells Nick that many hotels in Los Cabos provide the testing as part of their rate.
There are two COVID-19 viral test options to choose from
A doctor must provide you with a certificate proving that your are COVID-19 negative. It contains all of the CDC-required personal information. Also, it proves the test was performed on you specifically.
The COVID-19 viral test certificate must show the information about the doctor including the doctor’s license information. As an example, the certificate shows which test was performed, the COVID-19 viral result, when the test was performed – the test must be performed within 72 hours before crossing the border. The certificate must be in English.
The PCR Test is the gold standard
PCR testing is used to detect specific genetic material associated with the virus and can detect the COVID-19 virus within days of infection. This is true even in those who have no symptoms. PCR testing is performed in a lab using a machine. It only takes from 20-40 minutes to complete. Also, the PCR Test may be performed in a hospital, a clinic, or even in your car or at your home.
Antigen Testing is your second option
Antigen Test detections are fast and fairly convenient. That means, they are suitable for scenarios such as rapid screening and instant detection. And more, COVID-19 antibody detection kits are being developed and distributed as quickly as possible.
