In today’s episode of The Nick Fong PODCAST, Nick Fong, the founder and broker of Ronival Real Estate, welcomes a special guest from Mexico. For years, she was the only woman competing in the country’s downhill mountain biking scene. Since 2013, she’s held the title of Women’s National Champion. Her name is Lorena Dromundo, a professional athlete from Ajusco, a mountainous area on the southern side of Mexico City.
At just 12 years old, Lorena began competing and soon participated in her first national race. In the video, she shares what it takes to reach the top of such a demanding sport, offering insight into the discipline and mindset behind her success. Nick, who’s also an avid mountain biker, dives deep into her story and connection to Cabo Del Sol and the rugged beauty of Los Cabos—an area that has become a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts and adrenaline seekers alike.
How Lorena Dromundo started competing
Lorena’s journey began at age 11, when she first started competing on horseback in both jumping and racing. Naturally competitive, she later discovered her true passion—downhill mountain biking. From that moment on, the thrill of speed, focus, and precision captured her completely and set the course for her professional career.
What does it mean to be a downhill mountain biker?
Nick shares his own passion for biking and asks Lorena what it truly means to be a downhill racer. Her response highlights the intense mental and physical endurance required, explaining how every descent is both technical and punishing. The risks are real—crashes, high speeds, and demanding terrain—but the reward, she says, is a feeling of total freedom. It’s the same sense of adventure many people experience while exploring the canyons and desert trails near Puerto Los Cabos.
Cabo mountain biking in Baja Sur
Now an instructor and academy founder, Lorena plans to base her mountain biking school in Cabo. The region’s diverse terrain makes it one of Mexico’s top destinations for riders of all skill levels. From the dramatic coastline around Quivira Los Cabos to the trails of Todos Santos and La Paz, the Baja landscape offers endless possibilities for adventure—blending luxury living with the thrill of the outdoors. It’s a place where world-class real estate and world-class riding truly meet.
