In todays episode of The Nick Fong PODCAST, Nick Fong, the founder and broker of Ronival Real Estate, presents a famous guest from Mexico. For a long time, Nick’s guest was the only girl to be part of the downhill mountain biking community. Then, ever since 2013, she has held the title of women’s national champion. Her name is Lorena Dromundo and she’s from Ajusco, a town in Mexico City located on the southern side.
At the age of 12, Lorena began to compete and only one year later, she participated in her first national competition. In the video, Lorena tells Nick what it’s like competing in downhill mountain biking and what she has had to go through to get to the top. How Lorena Dromundo started competing
When Lorena was only 11 years of age, she started competing on horses. As she explains, she both jumped horses and raced horses. Obviously, she’s naturally quite competitive. After horses, she realized how much she loved bikes. So very quickly, she discovered downhill mountain biking and the rest was history.
What does it mean to be a downhill mountain biker?
Nick tells Lorena that he’s a mountain biker himself. He doesn’t compete professionally, but he loves the sport and clearly understands what Lorena is talking about. Then, he asks her what it means to be a downhill mountain biker. Her answer is both technical and dramatic as she explains in the video. In fact, Nick is surprised by the toll downhill mountain biking takes on your body.
Lorena mentions that her love for the sport is front-and-center. Then, she talks about how much of a sacrifice it takes to dedicate yourself to a sport like she has. According to her, downhill mountain biking wasn’t very well known in Mexico. That means, she’s been with it while it has grown leaps and bounds where today, downhill mountain biking is very popular throughout Mexico.
Many crashes and injuries are the name of the game
Having never broken a bone, Lorena did crash once and split her liver in two. The look on Nick’s face is priceless. Then, she tells Nick that getting knocked un-conscience is almost a weekly event. At the speeds they cruise down the mountains, along bumpy paths, wipe-outs must be very rough indeed. Apparently, the more you crash, the better you get – makes sense.

Now a mountain biking instructor, Lorena tells Nick that she wants put her academy in Cabo, of Baja California Sur.
