First, before we look at how Cabo and all of Baja California Sur is recovering, let’s look at how Mexico has been affected by COVID-19. From Nick Fong, as he’s detailed during his Saturday morning Cabo update on May 23rd, 2020, there were 62,527 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 13,347 currently active cases of the virus. In Mexico overall, there has been 6,389 reported deaths from COVID-19.
In Baja California Sur, the southern state on the Baja California peninsula, which includes the inviting towns of Loreto, La Paz, and all of Los Cabos, there are currently 204 active cases of COVID-19. Also, there were 31 deaths and 254 recoveries throughout Baja California Sur. There were 91 cases in La Paz and so far, there have been ZERO cases in Loreto!

Cabo is reopening
The original reopening date was set for the first of June, but now that’s been canceled. There is a new pending reopening date that is set for June 20th, but we don’t know how solid that really is. Therefore, stay tuned with Nick Fong on his Saturday morning Cabo Update to be informed and to prepare yourself for your return to Cabo as this wonderful Mexican destination reopens and begins to thrive again.
For flights to Cabo, 60% of air connectivity is reported to resume. Regarding hotels, 80% of hotel occupancy is reported to reopen. We all believe that all of Cabo will come back online little-by-little. The majority of this information comes from the Pueblo Bonito Hotel Group in Cabo. They are going through extensive measures to ensure public safety as people start coming back – extreme best practices. Third and fourth quarter recovery forecast
The recovery is going to be a slow and steady upswing as Baja California Sur slowly comes back online. Nick Fong describes this recovery as being shaped like a Nike swoosh.
