About Brighton West and his amazing story

Nick’s guest Brighton West, who one day came to visit La Paz for his first trip to Baja California Sur with his wife, quickly purchased a home there – La Paz is just two-hours north of Cabo.  Now, Brighton has a YouTube Channel called Almost Retired in Mexico.  There, he explains to ex-pats and future ex-pats how things work in Mexico.

Now that Brighton has lived in La Paz for about two years now, he has quite a story to tell Nick.  First, he lives in La Paz during the winter.  He spends his summers in Portland, OR.  But as he explains to Nick, he’s lived many places throughout the United States – he details this in their conversation.

Right before the pandemic, Brighton and his wife decided to visit La Paz after reading a blog post about it.  Already having an interest in Mexico after casually visiting northern towns like Tijuana and Ensenada, they headed down to La Paz for a three day tour.

After arriving, they “hired” a real estate agent from Ronival Real Estate to see some homes there thinking they were just touring.  But, they fell in love with the first home they saw and had an offer submitted before they left.  The rest was history!

Brighton’s buying process in La Paz

During their conversation, Nick asks Brighton to reveal his personal experience with the buying process in La Paz, Mexico.  Brighton tells Nick that after falling in love with that first home they toured, they submitted their offer and headed back to Portland.  After going back and fourth to get the best price, their offer was accepted and they closed the deal.

Right then, the pandemic hit hard.  Fortunately for Brighton and his wife, the value of their new home rose quickly – it “skyrocketed” according to Brighton.  In fact, two years later, their home has doubled in value.  Now, they love their home and live there every winter.
