About Michael Hopkins
Originally from Utah, in a small town near the Bonneville salt flats, Michael Hopkins has lived in some interesting places. In the video, he tells Nick that he lived in Okinawa, Japan for about three years. Then, he lived in California for a while, in the Monterey, California area, just south of San Francisco. Finally, he moved back to Utah for college.
Ever since November of 2021, Michael has been working full-time for Ronival Real Estate. When he came to Ronival, he was already an experience real estate agent, having worked for two other brokerages prior to working for Nick Fong. In total, Michael has about 11 years experience in real estate to date. And of course, all of his experience is in Los Cabos real estate.
Michael mentions to Nick that his background is in the hospitality industry, which is what brought him to Los Cabo originally. It was his employer in Texas that sent him to Los Cabos for a three-week assignment. After the three weeks were up, his company offered him a great job working in Cabo, so they moved him there. As such, he’s lived in Los Cabo for over 16 years now.
Many paths to becoming a real estate agent
There are many ways to become a real estate agent. Of course, there’s what I call ‘the easiest way to become a real estate agent.” And, this way is quite simple. Just contact a real estate broker and try to get hired. As an important note, be sure to choose a broker that has many agents working for them.
After you’re able convince that real estate broker to hire you, they’ll walk you through the entire process. This will get your real estate on track in a controlled, organized, and simple way. And, your chance of success will be great as you leverage all that broker has to offer you.
If you don’t seek out a good real estate broker, or if you want to do it by yourself – DIY real estate agent, you certainly can do it. Number one, you need to get licensed. To get a license, you must pay the fee and go through the education program.
When you get that license, make sure you become affiliated with listings right away. You must have a platform by which you can put your properties for sale and also see other properties. The most popular platform in Baja California Sur is the Baja MLS (Multiple Listings Service). But in order to become a member of the Baja MLS, you need to work for a broker or you must become a broker yourself, which requires at least two years of experience.
