Then, you need to ask if you want to be near the ocean, in a picturesque town, or in a small or big city. Now, read on to see the answers to these and more.
About Scott Fuller and his unique business
As he tells Nick in the video, Scott Fuller hasn’t seen Nick since before the pandemic in the fall of 2019. So now it’s time for them to catch up. For some background, Scott helps people sell their house in California and buy their new home somewhere else. Also, he helps them with strategy, how to make it happen, and logistics like moving their things.
Leaving California to where?
Starting with LeavingTheBayArea.com and LeavingSoCal.com that Scott launched in 2015, people from all over California are asking him for advise on how to leave the state. And now that the pandemic has been going on for years, people are more accustomed to living and working remotely. This has really opened the door to living somewhere else – somewhere more attractive.
Reasons people are leaving California
In the video, Scott tells Nick that there’s no shortage of reasons people want to leave California. Scott has lived in California for 35 years, from the north to the south, in many cities, so he knows the state very well. Although he loves California – the beaches, mountains, and other features, there were too many things that happened there that turned him and his wife off to living there any longer. So, they moved to Arizona, just outside of Phoenix.
The first reason Scott mentions about why people leave California is retirement – there are many retirees wanting to move somewhere else. In fact, that made up the majority of the reason people have been leaving California. Lately, the cost of living and state taxes have been a rapidly growing reason. And now, the state regulations and policies have been driving people out of the state as well – business has become difficult there.
Where are people moving when they leave the state?
When people leave California to live in another state, they are typically looking for states with little to no income tax. Therefore, states like Florida, Texas, Nevada and Tennessee are prime examples to move to, in order to save on income taxes. But of course, that has made property values and cost-of-living rise in those states.
Now, people are looking to move out of the US when they leave California. As such, they’re looking to move to Mexico, since it’s just to the south. And, Mexico has many great options like Cabo, where Americans love to live and thrive. Also, Costa Rica and a few other countries to the south are becoming attractive options too.
