The following three PODCAST interviews reveal just how exciting the activities in Los Cabos really are. In each interview, Nick learns some awesome details about the lives of four champions, each in their own outdoor sport. Therefore, continue reading to uncover who they are and what they’ve accomplished.
Bisbee’s famous fishing tournaments
Every year from July through October, Bisbee’s hosts three famous Cabo fishing tournaments. And each one escalates from one to the next. In July, the East Cape Offshore tournament is the first of two warm-up competitions before the big Los Cabos fishing tournament in late October. Then, the second is called Los Cabos Offshore. It takes place just days before the big multi-million-dollar tournament – Bisbee’s Black and Blue.
When the Bisbee family first arrived, they started with a mooring business in Cabo. There wasn’t a marina back then, so they helped make that happen. Being their 41st year in business in Cabo, Wayne tells Nick the whole story in a condensed version. What a history indeed!
East Cape Offshore Tournament
The East Cape Offshore Tournament is “Los Cabos fishing as it used to be.” In addition to marlin, this competion includes dorado and tuna. The Bisbee’s Los Cabos fishing tournament expanded to the east side of Baja California Sur back in 2000, to host the East Cape Offshore in the small town of Buenavista.
Los Cabos Offshore Tournament
This event was created back in 2002, called Los Cabos Offshore. It’s nick-named the “Little Bisbee’s.” And, it’s more of a social event full of camaraderie, where old fishing buddies reunite, share stories and spend a few days warming up before that final event, the big daddy of the them all…Bisbee’s Black and Blue…five days of the most thrilling sports fishing in the world
Black and Blue Tournament
As the biggest and final event, the Black and Blue Tournament takes place at the end of October, this is the last Los Cabos fishing tournament of the series and is the most prestigious of the them all. It offers the highest winnings of any sports-fishing tournament in the world. And, it attracts some of the best boats with some of the biggest names in fishing. These fishermen have very deep wallets and usually enroll in all tournament options across the board, often paying $60,000 or more in entry fees and calcuttas (daily jackpots).
Kiteboarding in Baja with Colleen Carroll
Professional kiteboarder and now real estate agent, Colleen Carroll is quite extraordinary. And as you’ll see in the video, she’s excited to talk about her experiences. Now, continue reading to uncover more about her history, what she knows about Baja, and her new real estate career.
Colleen Carroll mentions to Nick Fong that although she lives in Hood River, Oregon, she loves to travel a bit. So Nick asks her to describe what it means to be a professional kiteboarder. She responds by telling Nick that over the last 10 years, she has built her professional kiteboarding career. During that time, she has gained some great sponsors and traveled to many amazing places for kiteboarding competitions, photo shoots, and video shoots.
Downhill mountain biking with Lorena Dromundo
For a long time, Nick’s guest was the only girl to be part of the downhill mountain biking community. Then, ever since 2013, she has held the title of women’s national champion. Her name is Lorena Dromundo and she’s from Ajusco, a town in Mexico City located on the southern side.
When Lorena was only 11 years of age, she started competing on horses. As she explains, she both jumped horses and raced horses. Obviously, she’s naturally quite competitive. After horses, she realized how much she loved bikes. So very quickly, she discovered downhill mountain biking and the rest was history.
