Sarahuaro Foundation: Empowering Cabo’s Future

Women and children supported by the Sarahuaro Foundation in Cabo San Lucas, Baja Sur

This week’s episode of The Nick Fong PODCAST is dedicated to the Sarahuaro Foundation that dedicates its efforts to children and their mothers so that they can have a better future.  As such, Nick joins Edith and Lawrence to discuss the future of Los Cabos from another perspective: that of the foundations that help the community.

Nick Fong is the founder and broker of the biggest and fastest-growing real estate firm in Baja California Sur: Ronival Real Estate.  That means, he’s quite involved in the community.  And since the Sarahuaro Foundation is so effective in helping the community, this is a win-win situation indeed.

Now, read on to learn more about their special events to raise money to continue this incredible work happening this year!

About the Sarahuaro Foundation

Established in 2005, the Sarahuaro Foundation is the most recognized and successful women’s society in Los Cabos.  Their focus is supporting and empowering women and impoverished children.  At the Sarahuaro Foundation, everything is based around education.

First and foremost, the Sarahuaro Foundation feeds children in need.  As such, they have kitchens in Los Cabos to prepare the food and systems in place to identify those who are most impoverished.  Right now, they are feeding daily meals to 350 children per month on average.  Once fed, the children are put into a learning program that will help them after graduation.

Helping women establish the fundamentals is the goal for the Sarahuaro Foundation.  To explain, after giving food to the little ones, they teach their mothers skills to help them earn an income such as hairdressing, massage, sewing, and English classes.  Also, they teach computer skills so those mothers can take good professional jobs.

Ultimately, the Sarahuaro Foundation is on a mission to break the cycle of poverty through education.  Therefore, those new skillsets will ensure future income from well-paying jobs after they complete their training.

A little about Edith and Lawrence

In the video, Lawrence tells Nick that the Sarahuaro Foundation was the reason they moved to Los Cabos.  Previously, they spent numerous vacations in Los Cabos, multiple times per year.  That means, they knew the area and the opportunity for this foundation ahead of time.

From Canada, Edith has multiple pre-schools they established there in the past.  So while on vacation in Los Cabos, they considered building a school along with other ventures to help the poor in Los Cabos.  After a few years of looking for opportunities, based on numbers that work, they finally decided to semi-retire in Los Cabos and work with the Sarahuaro Foundation.

Now, Edith is the director of the Sarahuaro Foundation and it’s performing quite well.  So today, she has some new initiatives for the foundation.  This year, Sarahuaro is hosting fundraisers in Los Cabos.

Sarahuaro Foundation fundraisers

As Edith tells Nick, the first one, the Pilot’s Ball, is happening right away.  Then, the next celebrates International Day of Women to recognize women.  On March 31st, the next fundraiser will be held.  Finally, the last event is on May 14th for Mother’s Day.
